For our humanities project, our class of fifty one students put on a pop-up restaurant; we called it Bellissimo Chaos. The purpose of having a food unit was to bring forth the attention of how food plays a big role in our daily lives and the meanings that can be shown through it. We explored many messages and meanings that can be portrayed through food while reading the book Like Water for Chocolate. As we were reading the recipes that are folded into this book, we wrote our own food narratives that held a special place in our lives and deciphered the significance of these dishes. While doing this, we visited many different restaurants and spoke to the owners to gain knowledge of the experience we wanted to give our customers; our aesthetic, the mood, the importance of the connection between your food and your message. Lastly, we wanted to gain background in what it would actually take to create a real-life restaurant. The various restaurants we visited in South Park were Buona Forchetta, Del Sur, and Kindred. We also visited a farm called Olivewood Gardens in National City. Through these visits we were able to imagine our pop-up restaurant in our minds and bring it to life in our soft open at school. This was a very small event where we invited teachers and partners to our small classroom, at High Tech High CV, to try our food and give us critique. After hearing and understanding what we needed to change, we moved on to our next step which was holding a one-night-only event in a real restaurant. We connected ourselves with the owners of Romesco and they willingly agreed to allow us to take over their restaurant on December 5th. To this, only reservations were allowed to come in; as it was made to show appreciation to the family and friends of our class.
The night was a huge success and we were all very proud of what we had done and that we were the ones who created bridges and new connections between the school and professional work places.

Below is our Kickstarter video that we would show to our partners and doners to help us create our desire of a pop-up restaurant.
