Field Trips
In all of the field trips we attended, we became knowledgeable about different to run a business or, specifically, a restaurant.
We started off by heading into South Park to have the owners of three different restaurants explain to us what it is they do on a business day. The first place we went to was Del Sur.
We started off by heading into South Park to have the owners of three different restaurants explain to us what it is they do on a business day. The first place we went to was Del Sur.
Here, we were able to have a feel for the mexican environment that we might have been leaning to, to lead us in designing the principals of our restaurant. We learned about the importance of the small kitchen, table arrangements, and how decor and music sways the feelings of the customers. It was clear to us that this was a restaurant that very clearly, you could tell the type of environment they were and what they wanted you to feel, which was something we wanted to incorporate into our restaurant.
Our next stop was at Buona Forchetta.
Our next stop was at Buona Forchetta.
Here, we figured out the importance of ingredients, simplicity, and culture. We were immersed in the culture when we stepped foot into the kitchen with the Italian chef and the imported ingredients. We also found the habit of urgency in the kitchen to get the food out while they were preparing pizzas for each of our small groups were there asking questions and observing the different parts of what makes a kitchen function. The outer decor gave us an idea of what we wanted for our pop-up. We wanted something simple and classy, with lots of lights.
On our last stop in South Park, we visited a vegan restaurant with the name Kindred.
On our last stop in South Park, we visited a vegan restaurant with the name Kindred.
At Kindred we really got to know the importance of theme and having a distinct message in your food. Here, we were also inspired to have a vegan option to expand our menu and get to know other ways of cooking food that can be both healthy and delicious.
Olivewood Gardens
By coming to Olivewood Garden, we got to really understand where our food comes from. When we were told about the artificial things that are produced to be consumed by the public, we were told that we had a voice. The youth are the ones who will be able to change the amount of food desserts in a designated place. We were able to finally understand how growing fresh products are good for the community and learned about health reasons as to why we should convert to farmer's market.
