Slinky Lab
The first step into our sound garden endeavor was to Understand the way sound and sound waves work. In order to figure this out, we played around with slinkies that can very closely resemble a sound wave. Below is a picture of a transverse wave which is a wave that passes energy from one side to the other and moves vertically. We learned about wavelengths by taking videos of the slinky waves and capturing the frequency to determine the Velocity and/or wavelengths.

Sound Installations
This project was brought to us in hopes to improve mindfulness by creating sound installations that would provide "mindful experiences" for those roaming around the campus. Our sound installation idea was the aeolian harp. An aeolian harp is like a normal harp only instead of someone plucking the strings, it plays with the wind. Below is a picture of what our final sketch looked like.

This is what our harp was supposed to look like. Our project at the end of the week was not finished in time to install. We had to dispose of the work we had already completed because we could not finish in time. The reason we did not finish in time was due to the fact that we had a really ambitious project that we believed we would complete by the end of the school year.
We also were not focused as much as we should've been on the project. We had about a week to finish the harp and for some reason we did not find it so urgent that we had to get working. We only started to find it urgent to complete the harp towards the time when it came closer to the deadline. Although we did not finish the product, the last couple of days that we were working was when we worked pretty hard.

I definitely believe that if we worked harder by starting the cutting wood process earlier we would have been able to finish the project or at least almost finish and have a better end product than what we ended up having. It was a disappointment to not be able to finish the final project that would have left our mark on the school, but we couldn't complete it and we are responsible for that. Hopefully what I take from this into tenth grade is that all work should be urgent. It should always be the top priority to finish something when we have a deadline.
